About Rocky Mountain College
About Rocky Mountain College: Rocky Mountain College, Montana’s first institution of higher learning, is a private, residential, comprehensive college, rooted in the liberal arts. Located in Billings, Montana, the state’s largest and most economically vibrant city, Rocky Mountain College has historically been influenced by religious denominations. The institution’s historic affiliations with the United Church of Christ, United Methodist Church, and Presbyterian Church (USA) remain apparent as the college is committed not only to the pursuit of knowledge, openness, and free inquiry, but also to such values as service, community, and character. The history of Rocky Mountain College and the building of these values began with the institution’s founding in 1878. The mission of the College is “to educate future leaders through liberal arts and professional programs that cultivate critical thinking, creative expression, ethical decision-making, informed citizenship, and professional excellence.” Additionally, the College promotes the development of the whole person and provides opportunities to enhance students’ intellectual, emotional, physical, and spiritual growth both on campu...s and through connections in the local and global community. The College, highly regarded regionally for its overall excellence, expresses its mission through the core themes of academic excellence, transformational learning, and shared responsibility and stewardship. The faculty at RMC is dedicated to student-centered learning through programs that prepare students for a wide variety of professions and further study. The College’s student athletes compete in both the Frontier and Cascade Collegiate Conferences of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics as well as the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association. Battlin’ Bears athletic programs include basketball, cheerleading, cross country, football, golf, ski racing, soccer, and track and field. In 2020, 37% of Rocky Mountain College students participated in competitive athletic programs. Rocky Mountain College boasts a record of success enabled by a low student-faculty ratio (9:1) and a generous program of financial aid. There are 52 undergraduate majors ranging from one of the nation’s top aviation certification programs to programs in the traditional liberal arts. RMC offers graduate degrees in physician assistant studies, occupational therapy, medical science, accountancy, and educational leadership, drawing students from 41 states and 16 countries. The overall student population consistently sits just above 1,000 students, evenly divided between male and female. The campus is fortunate in having a student body that achieves an average GPA of 3.35. An average of 45% of the student population lives on campus. There are approximately 15,500 living alumni.
