The Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations (NELC) at Harvard University seeks to appoint a tenure-track professor in Assyriology. The appointment is expected to begin on July 1, 2023. The tenure-track professor will be responsible for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including courses in Sumerian and/or Akkadian. The research and teaching of the successful candidate will focus on the peoples and lands of ancient Iraq, Syria, and environs, broadly defined, between the third millennium BCE and the Roman–Parthian era, including their language, literature, history, society, economy, religion, and material culture.
