The National Gallery of Art serves the nation by welcoming all people to explore and experience art, creativity, and our shared humanity. The Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts (the Center), founded in 1979 and located in the Gallery’s East Building, is a research institute that fosters study of the production, use, and cultural meaning of art, artifacts, architecture, urbanism, photography, and film worldwide from prehistoric times to the present. The Center’s programs include fellowships and internships, academic meetings, research, and publications.   The Center currently seeks to appoint an associate dean for academic programs and publications.
